Pickups Plus Cars is proud to present their newest shop project car. It is an 09 Ford Fusion SE V6. The car came equipped with the sport appearance package, which includes the rear spoiler, 18" wheels, and dual exhaust. It has a 3.0 liter V6 rated at 221 hp at the crank followed up with a 6 speed automatic transmission which enables the car to achieve upwards of 25 miles per gallon on the highway. Interior comforts included the Microsoft Sync system.
The Fusion is a pretty nice car to start out with. It is sporty, gets good gas mileage, and is very reasonably priced. That would be more than enough for most people but not the crew at PPC. The goal was to come up with something that would allow the Fusion to realize its full potential while being subtle enough that most people wouldn't even realize what all had been changed.
The first thing that needed attention was the exterior styling of the car. Stock the car is very sporty but gets lost in the crowd very easily. PPC started out with a 3dcarbon body kit painted to match. This kit included the front chin spoiler, side skirts, rear lower fascia, and 3.5" exhaust extensions to better fill in the exhaust cutouts in the lower fascia. Next thing on the agenda was wheels and tires. The stock 18's were swapped with 20" Black Chrome American Racing DMP wheels wrapped in 245/30/20 Nitto NeoGen tires. A new set of Ford oem tire pressure sensors was installed into wheels prior to mounting the tires in order to keep the factory tpms system intact and functioning as Ford intended. The front corner lenses were then smoked to help smooth out the body lines and blend the varying shades of gray together followed by debadging the rear deck to smooth out the rear of the car. The final step in the exterior treatment was PPC's exclusive ValuGuard paint protection system. This treatment consists of an acid neutralization process to help remove deposits from acid rain, an alkaline neutralizer to clean deposits of rail dust from the oem shipping yards, a ph7 wash, and 3 year paint sealant to keep that shine looking like new for years to come.
The performance of the car hasn't been overlooked either. Anyone that has driven one of the newer electronic throttle controlled vehicles has come to experience the throttle lag that is often associated with these systems. Not to worry though, the crew at PPC have a solution for that. Using the SCT X3 handheld flash device and Calibrator level access (the highest level of access in SCT's custom tuning software)several tweaks were made to improve throttle response and feel, followed by timing and fuel adjustments. The end results are a car that drives like stock but has instantaneous pedal response when your foot hits the floor. Future performance modifications will include a full dyno tune on PPC's in house dyno sometime in the spring.
PPC still has some future plans for the car which include, new custom leather interior as well as a navigation system with integrated backup camera as well as rear seat entertainment. Please check back for more updates in the near future.
