PROFESSIONAL CAR DETAILING IN OHIO

Exterior detailing is a hands-on process, and the quality of the result depends heavily on the knowledge and care that go into it. At Pickups Plus Cars, our detailing team has been caring for Central Ohio vehicles for over 25 years. We know the difference between a paint surface that just needs a wash and a paint surface that needs clay bar decontamination, machine polishing, and a fresh sealant. We assess the condition of your paint before we start, tell you honestly what it needs, and do the work properly. That means the right compound for the defect level, the right protection for the use case, and no shortcuts that compromise the finish.

Central Ohio winters are hard on paint. Road salt, freeze-thaw cycles, and sand all take a toll that a basic wash won't address. If you're looking for a full-service option, our auto detailing services cover everything from interior deep cleans to paintless dent removal

Exterior Detailing Services

A thorough exterior detail addresses every painted, glass, rubber, and metal surface on the outside of your vehicle. We work through a defined process (wash, decontaminate, correct, protect) and customize the scope to what the vehicle actually needs.

Paint Wash & Decontamination

We start with a proper hand wash using pH-neutral soap and clean microfiber mitts to avoid adding new scratches to the paint. After washing, a clay bar treatment removes bonded surface contaminants (iron deposits, tar, tree sap, brake dust) that don't come off with soap and water. Decontamination is often skipped at quick-service shops, but it's a necessary step before polishing or sealing if you want the surface truly clean.

Paint Correction & Polishing

Machine polishing removes swirl marks, light scratches, water spots, and oxidation from the clear coat. We use dual-action and rotary polishers with compound and pad combinations matched to the paint type and defect severity. The goal is to restore optical clarity to the paint surface, not just add shine on top of existing defects. We assess the paint under inspection lighting before we start to determine how much correction is warranted.

Paint Sealant Application

After correction, we apply a synthetic polymer sealant or wax to protect the cleaned surface and extend the results. A good sealant creates a hydrophobic layer that repels water, UV rays, and environmental contaminants. For customers wanting longer-lasting protection, we can apply a ceramic coating instead, which bonds to the clear coat and can last several years with proper maintenance. We'll explain the difference and help you decide what makes sense for your vehicle.

Wheel, Tire & Trim Car

Wheels accumulate brake dust, road grime, and iron deposits that can permanently stain if left untreated. We use dedicated wheel cleaners, including iron decontaminants on heavily contaminated wheels, and clean each wheel individually. Tires are dressed with a product that conditions the rubber without leaving a greasy residue. Exterior trim and plastic are treated to restore color and prevent UV fading.

EXTERIOR DETAILING QUESTIONS

  • What does an exterior detail actually include?

At minimum, a thorough exterior detail includes a proper hand wash, clay bar decontamination to remove bonded surface contaminants, machine polishing to correct paint defects, and sealant or wax application for protection. Wheel and tire cleaning, trim treatment, and glass cleaning are included as part of the process. We can add headlight restoration or a full ceramic coating depending on what the vehicle needs. We assess the paint condition before we start and walk you through what we recommend. Nothing gets added to the job without your sign-off.
  • I want to protect my paint long-term. Where does detailing fit in?

Detailing is where protection starts. Before any coating, sealant, or film goes on, the paint needs to be clean and corrected. Applying protection over contaminated or defective paint locks in whatever problems are already there and reduces how well the product bonds. A proper exterior detail, including decontamination and paint correction, prepares the surface so that whatever protection layer goes on top performs the way it should. If you're planning a paint protection film or even just a quality sealant, detailing is the right first step. We can assess your paint's current condition and walk you through the full picture from there.
  • How do I maintain the results between details?

The biggest thing is how you wash it. Automated car washes with brushes are one of the leading causes of swirl marks on paint. In our experience, they undo a professional detail faster than almost anything else. Hand washing with clean microfiber mitts and pH-neutral soap is the right method. A spray detailer or quick spray wax after washing adds a layer of protection and removes water spots before they etch the surface. Parking out of direct sun when possible slows UV degradation. We can recommend specific maintenance products from the detailing supplies we carry in both locations.
  • Is exterior detailing the same as getting a wrap or paint protection film?

Not quite. Exterior detailing is about cleaning, correcting, and protecting the paint surface that's already on your vehicle. A detail removes contaminants, polishes out surface defects, and applies a sealant or ceramic coating to protect what's there. Wraps and paint protection film are physical installations that go over the paint, either to change its appearance or shield it from rock chips and UV damage. They serve different purposes, but they work well together. We often detail a vehicle before a wrap or PPF install to make sure the paint underneath is in the best possible condition first. If you're weighing your options, come in and we'll help you figure out what makes sense for your vehicle.
  • Can detailing fix paint damage, or do I need bodywork?

It depends on the type and depth of the damage. Paint correction handles surface-level defects confined to the clear coat: swirl marks, light scratches, water spots, and oxidation. These can be polished out and leave the paint looking significantly better. Scratches that have broken through the clear coat into the base coat or primer are a different story. Polishing will improve their appearance but won't eliminate them. Those require touch-up paint or body repair to address properly. For dents where the factory paint is still intact, paintless dent removal is often an option without any bodywork or repainting involved. We assess every vehicle before we start and give you an honest read on what detailing can fix and what it can't, so there are no surprises.
