SEAT REPAIR, REUPHOLSTERY & REPLACEMENT

Not every damaged seat needs to be replaced. A torn seam, a cracked leather panel, or a seat with a broken reclining mechanism may be fully repairable without touching the rest of the seat. The right call depends on what's actually wrong, what the vehicle is worth, and what the owner wants to accomplish. We look at the seat first and give you an honest assessment before recommending a direction.

When repair isn't the right answer, we handle full reupholstering and seat replacement at both our Lewis Center and Hilliard locations as part of our interior services. That includes custom seat options for vehicle owners who want to upgrade the interior while they're addressing the damage. Whether you're restoring a driver's seat that's taken years of wear or replacing a full set on a vehicle you're rebuilding, the job starts with an honest look at what you're working with.

SEAT REPAIR & REPLACEMENT OPTIONS

Seat work ranges from targeted repairs to full replacements. Here's what each type of job involves and when each one makes sense.

Upholstery Repair

Torn seams, cracked leather, and surface damage that doesn't affect the structure of the seat are repair scenarios. We match materials to the existing upholstery as closely as possible for a result that blends with the rest of the seat. Leather repairs and seam repairs are two of the more common jobs we see. If the damage is extensive enough that repair produces a patchwork result, we'll tell you and discuss whether full reupholstering makes more sense.

Seat Frame & Mechanism Repair

Broken reclining mechanisms, failed seat tracks, and damaged frames are mechanical problems that can often be repaired without touching the upholstery. We assess the structural condition of the seat before quoting any work. Power seat motors and electrical seat components are also something we handle. If the mechanism has failed electrically, we diagnose the cause before replacing parts.

Full Reupholstering

Full reupholstering removes the existing cover entirely and replaces it with new material. This is the right approach when damage is widespread, when the current material has worn out beyond repair, or when the owner wants to change the interior's look as part of a broader project. Material options, color, and finish are chosen before any work begins. The result is a uniform seat with no visible repair lines or patches.

Seat Replacement

When repair or reupholstering isn't cost-effective relative to the vehicle's value, or when the owner wants to upgrade to a different seat style, we source and install replacement seats. This includes OEM-matched replacements for vehicles where the seat needs to match the others, and aftermarket options for vehicles where the owner wants a different look or more support. We assess fitment and any compatibility considerations before ordering.

YOU NEED THIS IF:

  • Your seat has a tear, crack, or seam failure that needs to be repaired
  • Your seat recliner, track, or adjustment mechanism isn't working correctly
  • The upholstery is worn out and you want a full reupholstering rather than a cover
  • You're restoring a vehicle and need the seats to match the rest of the interior work
  • You want an honest assessment of whether repair or replacement makes more sense before committing

COMMON SEAT REPAIR QUESTIONS

  • Should I repair my seat or just put a cover on it?

It depends on the damage and what you want to accomplish. Seat covers work well for protecting seats from further damage or adding a different look without a permanent change. But they sit on top of the existing seat — they don't fix a tear, a cracked leather panel, or a seat that's sagging. If the underlying seat is damaged and you want it actually fixed, repair or reupholstering is the right call. We can look at the seat and tell you what makes sense for your situation.
  • Can you match my existing upholstery color and material?

In most cases, yes. Factory upholstery colors and materials can typically be matched closely enough that the repair blends with the surrounding seat. Leather is more variable than fabric because leather panels fade and wear at different rates over time. If a close match isn't achievable for the specific repair, we'll tell you before we start and discuss options, including whether full reupholstering might produce a better result.
  • My power seat stopped adjusting. Is that a seat repair or an electrical issue?

Usually, it's one of a few things: a failed motor, a wiring connection that has come loose, or a failed switch. We diagnose the specific fault before recommending a repair. If the motor has failed, it can typically be replaced. If the issue is a loose connection or a failed switch, that's a simpler fix. We find the actual cause before ordering any parts.
  • Can you repair seats that have built-in airbags?

Yes, but it requires care. Seats with side airbags need to be handled in a way that doesn't compromise the airbag system. We account for the presence of airbag components in the seat construction during any repair or reupholstering work. If the airbag system needs inspection or recalibration as part of the repair, we address that as part of the job.
