BUILT FOR OHIO ROADS

Ohio highways do a number on vehicle exteriors. Stone chips pit the hood. Insects cake the windshield. Rain and wind make cracked windows useless at speed. Bug shields and rain guards are the practical fix. Neither one changes the look of the vehicle dramatically, but both make a real difference in how it holds up over time. At Pickups Plus Cars, we carry vehicle-specific fitment from brands including Autoventshade (AVS), Lund, and Nifty Products, and we've been fitting these accessories to trucks and SUVs across Central Ohio for 25+ years.

That means we know which products hold up through Ohio winters and which ones fade, crack, or lift at highway speed after a season. We'll match you to the right product for your vehicle and install it properly so it seats flush and stays put. If you're also considering a grille guard or other exterior body accessories, both install cleanly in the same visit.

BUG SHIELDS & RAIN GUARDS IN COLUMBUS, OHIO

We supply and install bug shields and rain guards for trucks, SUVs, and cars across Central Ohio, with vehicle-specific fitment from leading brands.

Hood Bug Shields

Bug shields mount at the front edge of the hood to deflect insects, road debris, and stone chips away from the hood and windshield. They're most effective on vehicles that spend significant time at highway speeds. We carry low-profile and aerodynamic styles in smoke, tinted, and chrome finishes to suit different looks.

Window Rain Guards

Rain guards mount above the door glass and allow you to keep windows cracked without rain, wind, or highway noise forcing its way in. They also reduce interior heat buildup when the vehicle is parked in the sun. Available in in-channel and tape-on styles depending on the vehicle and your preference.

In-Channel vs. Tape-On

In-channel guards sit inside the window channel without adhesive, creating a clean look with no tape line visible from outside. Tape-on guards mount to the exterior door frame with 3M tape and are easier to install on some vehicles. In-channel is the better choice if you think you may want to remove them later. We'll walk you through both options before installation.

Vehicle-Specific Fitment

Both bug shields and rain guards are year, make, and model specific. The same truck platform can have different hood profiles or door frame dimensions across model years, so fitment is confirmed before any part is ordered. We source accessories from AVS, Lund, and Nifty Products, and can help you find the right style and finish for your vehicle.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What's the difference between a bug shield and a rain guard?

They protect different parts of the vehicle and solve different problems. A bug shield mounts at the front edge of the hood to deflect road debris, stone chips, and insects away from the hood and windshield. A rain guard mounts above the door glass to let you run the windows cracked without rain or highway wind coming in. Many customers install both on the same vehicle since they address different areas. Neither requires permanent modification to the vehicle, and both are available with vehicle-specific fitment for a clean, factory-like appearance.
  • What's the difference between in-channel and tape-on rain guards?

In-channel rain guards sit inside the window channel without adhesive. They don't require tape, leave no residue, and can be removed cleanly if needed. Tape-on guards mount to the exterior door frame using 3M automotive tape. They're slightly easier to install on certain vehicle configurations but are harder to remove without leaving adhesive residue. If you think you might want to take them off down the road, in-channel is the better option. We'll walk you through which mounting style works best for your specific vehicle before anything goes on.
  • What brands do you carry, and does the brand matter?

We carry Autoventshade (AVS), Lund, and Nifty Products. Brand matters mainly for fitment consistency and material durability. Cheaper, unbranded accessories are often universal fit rather than vehicle-specific, which means they require modification to sit flush — or they never quite do. In our experience, the accessories that lift at the edges, fade within a season, or let wind in at highway speed are almost always the ones that were purchased based on price alone. The brands we carry use vehicle-specific tooling, which is why the fitment is clean and the accessories hold up through Ohio winters without cracking or fading.
  • Will a bug shield affect my hood's ability to open and close normally?

No. Bug shields mount to the front edge of the hood and don't interfere with the hood latch or hinge mechanism. They're designed around the hood's natural contour and open and close with the hood as normal. That said, fitment matters here too. A shield that isn't matched to your specific hood profile can sit unevenly or make contact with the grille or bumper when the hood is closed. We confirm fitment before installation to make sure nothing interferes.
  • Can I add a bug shield and rain guards at the same appointment?

Yes, and most customers do. Both accessories install without any drilling or permanent modification to the vehicle, so they can be done at the same visit in a relatively short time. If you're also considering a grille guard for your front end, that can typically be folded into the same appointment as well. Stop in and let us know what you're looking to add and we'll give you a realistic time estimate upfront.
