TOUGHER THAN FACTORY PAINT

Most factory finishes on wheels, brackets, and metal accessories aren't built for Ohio winters. Road salt and brake dust eat through them within a few seasons, leaving pitting, corrosion, and bare metal underneath. Powder coating is a different class of finish. It's applied through an electrostatic and oven-curing process that bonds it directly to the metal and produces a coat two to three times thicker and harder than standard paint.

At Pickups Plus Cars, we powder coat wheels, brackets, guards, and hardware with finishes ranging from gloss black and matte to metallic and textured. For protecting the undercarriage itself, our undercoating service covers that separately as part of our broader specialty coatings offering.

Powder Coating Services in Columbus, Ohio

We powder coat wheels, brackets, suspension components, grille guards, exhaust tips, and other metal parts for trucks, SUVs, and cars across Central Ohio.

Wheel Powder Coating

Wheels take constant exposure to brake dust, road salt, and debris that destroys liquid paint finishes within a few seasons. Powder coat holds up to all of it and can be applied in virtually any color or finish. We strip the old finish, prep the surface, and apply the new coat in one visit.

Brackets & Hardware

Suspension components, engine brackets, tow hitches, skid plates, and similar metal hardware are prime candidates for powder coating. These parts see the worst conditions under the vehicle and benefit most from a finish that bonds to the metal rather than sitting on top of it. Common on builds, restorations, and lifted trucks.

Accessories & Guards

Grille guards, bull bars, running board brackets, bed rails, and other aftermarket accessories often come in a generic black powder coat from the factory. We strip and recoat these in custom colors, finishes, or textures to match a specific build or simply restore a worn finish to like-new condition.

Custom Colors & Finishes

Powder coating is available in gloss, matte, satin, metallic, textured, and hammered finishes across a wide color range. Custom color matching is possible for builds where coated components need to integrate with the vehicle's paint or vinyl wrap. We walk you through finish options at either location before any work begins.

YOU NEED THIS IF:

  • Your wheels are corroding, pitting, or showing paint failure from road salt and brake dust
  • You're building or restoring a truck and want a durable finish on exposed metal components
  • Aftermarket accessories came in a finish that doesn't hold up or match the build
  • You want a color or finish option that liquid paint can't match for durability
  • Suspension or frame components need protection before an Ohio winter takes over

COMMON POWDER COATING QUESTIONS

  • How durable is powder coating compared to liquid paint?

Significantly more durable in most conditions. Powder coat bonds to the metal through a heat-curing process rather than sitting on the surface, and comes out two to three times thicker than liquid paint. It holds up better against chipping, scratching, corrosion, and chemical exposure, including the road salt brine Ohio uses for ice treatment. On high-impact surfaces like wheels, the difference in lifespan is substantial, especially on vehicles driven year-round in Ohio.

  • What metal components can be powder coated?

Most bare or stripped metal components can be powder coated, including wheels, frames, suspension parts, brackets, bumpers, grille guards, exhaust tips, and general hardware. The component needs to withstand the oven-curing temperature, typically around 400 degrees Fahrenheit, which rules out anything with rubber seals, plastic inserts, or heat-sensitive components still attached. We assess parts before starting and flag anything that needs disassembly or preparation first.

  • Can powder coating be applied to painted body panels?

No. Powder coating requires oven curing at high temperatures that would damage the surrounding vehicle, so it's limited to metal components. For painted panel protection, PPF or a ceramic coating are the right options depending on what you're trying to achieve. If you're not sure which fits your situation, bring it in, and we'll point you in the right direction.

  • Can damaged powder coat be repaired, or does the whole component need to be recoated?

Spot repairs are difficult because new applications won't blend seamlessly with the existing finish. In most cases, the best result comes from stripping the component and recoating it entirely. For minor chips or scratches, touch-up paint in a matching color can buy time, but it won't match the durability or appearance of the original powder coat. We'll give you an honest assessment of whether a repair or a full recoat makes more sense for your specific situation.

  • How long does powder coating take?

Stripping, prep, application, and curing typically take one to two days for most components. Turnaround depends on the number of parts and any prep work required. Wheels need to be dismounted, stripped, and remounted, which adds time. We'll give you a realistic timeline when you bring the parts in.

Great listeners and understand the big picture of my vision. Good advice and follow through with timing. Work to help find the components to complete the project at good value without sacrificing quality. I still have several mods scheduled for installation but thought I'd share the process this far.

Got a spray in bed liner done here and scheduling and process was super easy there was a small section that was torn after install and after they took a look they had me bring back in right away to fix it and even said if they needed to take the bed cover off that they'd handle everything. Friendly service and made sure everything was right.
