PERFORMANCE UPGRADES IN CENTRAL OHIO
Performance work at Pickups Plus Cars covers the full spectrum. That includes bolt-on upgrades that add measurable gains with minimal disruption to the rest of the vehicle, all the way to forced induction installs and complete engine builds that fundamentally change what a vehicle can do. We work on trucks, SUVs, cars, and imports, and we've been building performance vehicles for Central Ohio customers since 1999.
Every performance build starts with a conversation about what you're actually trying to accomplish. More power on a daily driver is a different objective than track preparation, and the right combination of parts depends on your specific vehicle, your goals, and your budget. We'll tell you what gains are realistic for your platform, what parts work together, and what sequence of upgrades makes the most sense. Come into our Lewis Center or Hilliard location and we'll work through it with you.

Forced Induction: Supercharger & Turbo
Supercharger and turbo installs produce the largest power gains of any bolt-on modification. Superchargers deliver immediate boost across the RPM range; turbos build power as exhaust pressure climbs and typically produce more peak output at higher RPMs. The right choice depends on your engine, your power goals, and how you use the vehicle. We assess the platform before recommending a system and handle the full install, including any supporting modifications the engine needs to run the added boost reliably.

Engine Builds
A full engine build starts from the bottom up: bored and honed block, forged internals, performance camshaft, ported heads, and the combination of components matched to your power target and intended use. We handle partial builds for customers looking to address specific weak points as well as complete builds for vehicles targeting serious power output. We've built engines for street cars, track builds, and everything in between. The conversation starts with what you want the vehicle to do and works backward from there.

Bolt-On Upgrades
Not every performance build requires forced induction or a full engine build. Air intake and filtration upgrades improve airflow and throttle response with a straightforward install. Brake upgrades replace factory rotors, calipers, and pads with components engineered for higher heat tolerance and better stopping performance, which is especially relevant on vehicles that have been tuned for more power. These modifications work on their own or as part of a larger build, and we'll tell you honestly what gain to expect from each one on your specific vehicle.

Tuning & Performance Products
Hardware upgrades produce their best results when the tune is dialed in to match. ECU tuning adjusts fuel delivery, ignition timing, and boost targets to extract maximum output from the parts already on the vehicle. We carry racing fuels for customers who need a higher octane rating to support a built engine or aggressive tune. We also carry P3 Gauges for real-time monitoring of boost, intake temps, and other engine parameters. We can walk you through what monitoring setup makes sense for your build.
COMMON PERFORMANCE UPGRADE QUESTIONS
What's the difference between a supercharger and a turbo?
Both force more air into the engine than it would draw naturally, which allows more fuel to be burned and more power to be produced. The difference is in how they're driven. A supercharger is belt-driven directly off the engine, which means boost is available immediately at any RPM. Power delivery is predictable with minimal lag. A turbo is driven by exhaust gases, which means it takes a moment to spool before boost builds. Turbos typically produce more peak power at higher RPMs and are more efficient at high output levels. The right choice depends on your engine, your power goals, and how you drive. We'll walk you through what makes sense for your specific vehicle before anything is ordered. What does an engine build actually involve?
A full engine build typically means the engine comes out of the vehicle and is disassembled completely. The block is inspected, bored, and honed to accept new pistons. Internals are replaced with forged components (pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft) matched to the power level the engine is being built to handle. Heads are inspected, ported, and fitted with upgraded valvetrain components as needed. The engine is then assembled, balanced, and reinstalled with all supporting components updated to match. The scope varies by build: some customers need a partial rebuild targeting specific failure points; others are building from scratch for a specific power target. We've done both for Central Ohio customers across a range of platforms. Will performance modifications affect my factory warranty?
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer cannot void your entire warranty simply because you've added aftermarket parts. However, if a performance modification causes a specific failure, the manufacturer can deny warranty coverage for that component and anything directly affected by it. In practice, this means a supercharger install doesn't void your transmission warranty, but it could affect a warranty claim on engine components if the manufacturer can demonstrate the added power contributed to the failure. The risk level depends on the parts involved and how aggressively the vehicle is built. We're honest about what the warranty exposure looks like before any work starts.Should I add parts first or get a tune first?
Parts first, tune second. In almost every case. A tune optimizes the engine management system for the hardware that's on the vehicle. If you tune for a cold air intake and then add a supercharger later, the tune is now wrong for the new configuration. The correct sequence is to finalize the hardware combination, then tune to match. If you're building in stages over time, a tune at each significant stage is reasonable, but expect to retune when the configuration changes. We can help you plan a build sequence that makes sense for your budget and timeline so you're not paying for multiple tunes on the same platform.
